Lyle Abbott
We dedicate this post to remembering our former Group Scout Leader, Lyle Abbott, who sadly passed away in May.
Lyle had been a major part of scouting in Irthlingborough for over 61 years. He began his adult volunteering as a Leader in the Scout Section in 1963 and he continued to be a stalwart of the Group ever since.
Having been awarded several good service awards over the years, including a Medal of Merit in 1981 and Silver Acorn in 1993, his ‘Service of an exceptional nature’ was recognised when he was awarded the Silver Wolf in the April 2008, the highest award given for good service in Scouting. Lyle also received many local community awards for his volunteering in the town.
Lyle’s exceptional service to scouting in Irthlingborough helped to shape so many local young people over these years and has supported adults to become great leaders too.
We will miss Lyle so much.
In other news….
The Cub section attended the annual District Cub Scout Camp at Bromham this summer, joining in with lots of different activities including

and of course…..a big campfire get together.

The Scout section has had a busy summer programme learning bicycle maintenance and first aid as well as running some joint nights with groups from Raunds and Finedon.
